about

A Galley being the preliminary version of publications before the final touches are made, and the gallows being for many the very end, the title Galley to the Gallows is meant to bookend 15 years and many variations of The Gallery Singers.
This collection includes songs from The Gallery Singers between 2001-2016 including our very first released track, Goodbye Miss Sarah, to demo recordings for our forthcoming LP You Are Worth Saving. This collection is comprised of singles, tracks from compilation albums, unreleased material, demo recordings, and live tracks.
Just after High School I had a job as a janitor at the Water Tower Museum in Louisville on the Banks of the Ohio River. The museum was housed in the old Water Tower, built in 1856, the oldest of it's kind in the world. At nights after sweeping and moping I would roll the old upright piano out of storage into the main gallery and write songs and sing in front of the large windows that overlooked the river and the barges that rolled by continuously at night. The large vaulted ceilings carried the sound through the entire building. Thus the name 'Gallery Singers' although it was just me in the beginning. Many of the songs in the first 5+ years where written on piano. A Lover of music, but no virtuoso, I often asked my more gifted friends to help me materialize song ideas.
From there I moved to the 953 Warehouse with Kevin Ratterman. Thanks to his recording studio there was always a steady flow of musicians passing through.
In those first years many of the members would just be for one project. It isn't to say there weren't many who put in massive hours over the years; there are so many people who at one time or another called themselves a Gallery Singer, too many to name here but there are some who stuck by me for years and deserve many thanks including Kevin Ratterman, Kent O'Bryan, Dom Cipolla, Carrie Neumayer, Jeremy Irvin, Chris Renn, and Daniel Norris.

It has been a great honor to play with so many great Louisvillians over the years and hopefully there will be many more years to come. I am both humbled and delighted to put this collection together to celebrate 15 years of The Gallery Singers, 15 years of Louisville Is For Lovers, and a lifetime friendships and memories.
